DESTINATION WEDDING: ITALY BEYOND EXPECTATIONS

The sector has left behind a record-breaking 2023, with a turnover of about 803 million euros. Driving the events is the increase in requests from some non-European markets. Expectations for 2024 are for further growth, albeit at a more moderate pace.

Italy remains among the most coveted destinations for “Destination Wedding” although the requests from different foreign countries have shown quite varied trends. In 2023, the increase in demand from American couples continued, but significant growth signals were also recorded in the requests from Australian, Canadian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Singaporean, and Indonesian couples.

Tourist presences strictly linked to the celebrations are estimated at over 2.4 million overnight stays (+19.5%). The survey also revealed an increase in the average number of participants at events (60.7), which certainly contributed to the increase in the sector’s turnover estimated at 803 million euros.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS IN ITALY

In 2023, there was an increase in requests from American couples, confirming themselves as the absolute main target market.

There was also growth in requests from couples from other non-European markets such as Australian, Canadian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Singaporean, and Indonesian.

Some signs of slowdown or adjustment in the requests of couples from European Countries, which brought their market share to 52% from 57% in 2022.

The most numerous requests came from couples from the United Kingdom and Germany, both in slight decline compared to last year. Significant interest was also recorded for requests from Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Lithuania, all in clear growth, while the demand from French, Irish, Spanish, and Belgian couples remains stable.

As had already been noted last year, even for 2023, the demand showed quite diversified interest among the different destinations of the individual macro areas.

In fact, the Center and the Northeast reduced their market share to the advantage of the Northwest (+3.1 points) and the South and Islands (+3.8 points).
